Write for Us

Welcome to the Beyond Academia blog! We strive to be a resource for graduate students and postdocs exploring non-academic careers. We intend to offer a regular set of articles that discuss the challenges that PhDs and postdocs face in their “big transition” and the solutions/resources available. In advance of the February conference, we will discuss our conference panelists, themes, and how you can get involved!

We will also offer a regular series of articles and resources from students, industry professionals, and PhDs who have successfully transitioned beyond academia. We want this blog to be an interactive venue.

We’re always on the lookout for talented writers to contribute to Beyond Academia. If you’re a student, a PhD or an industry professional with advice/tips for transitioning PhDs, we’re very interested in what you have to say! If you would like to write for us, or if you have an idea to pitch, please send us an email at blog@beyondacademia.org.

We are looking to publish original and well-written articles between 500 and 1000 words in length that discuss career education and resources for PhDs. If you have draft already, please send it as a writable .doc or .rtf file, along with a brief bio and (optional) one link to your website, Linkedin or social profile. If you have an idea but no draft, please send the following:

  • Your Proposed Title
  • Your Proposed Argument
  • Supporting documentation (citations or links)
  • A brief bio and (optional) one link to your website, Linkedin or social profile
  • If you have them, two or three writing samples (blog posts, articles, etc.)

Upon receipt of your full-length draft, the Beyond Academia editorial team will take a look and let you know if we would like to publish your submission within a week. If we propose any substantial edits, we won’t publish the submission without your permission, but we reserve the right to make minor copy edits as we see fit.

By submitting your post, you agree that Beyond Academia has exclusive publication rights to your article and you will not publish this article or any substantially similar article elsewhere without the permission of Beyond Academia. Beyond Academia also reserves the right to use all or portions of your article in any promotional materials that we may publish in the future. If you have questions about your submission, please contact blog@beyondacademia.org for more information.
