The Careers Reception is a networking event designed for PhDs and postdocs who are interested in learning more or applying to work outside academia by talking to representatives of companies and organizations directly. All of the participating representatives are interested in hiring PhD holders. Use this opportunity to ask any questions you may have or hand in your resume and follow up by applying for a position!
Attendance is free, but requires a $5 RSVP fee which will be reimbursed upon check in at the Careers Reception. First 200 attendees receive a free padfolio!
Food and drinks will be provided to attendees for the duration of the event. Must be 21 or older to drink alcoholic beverages (we will be checking IDs).
Registration open now! Resume submission information is sent via Eventbrite to registered attendees.
Careers to Explore
We are proud to have doubled the size of the Careers Reception since its inauguration last year. With feedback from attendees, this year we have expanded the types of companies to include those who are hiring:
- Data Scientists
- Science Researchers
- Curriculum Development
- Management Consultants
- Technical Consultants
- Research and Design Engineers
- Project Managers
- UI Designers
- and more
Explore the companies participating. Many are hiring across their company for a variety of positions. You might find a career you never thought of before or find a position in a company you never would have thought to search within. Join us for this event to make new connections and learn about new careers.
This event opens with a panel discussion and is followed by a speed networking session. Unlike a normal career fair, instead of waiting in line, we provide banquet tables to sit, eat, and converse with representatives allowing for a more relaxed general discussion. During speed networking we will encourage attendees to change tables every 15 minutes in order to give everyone a chance to speak with popular companies but to also encourage exploring other career avenues. After speed networking there will be a general time to speak with representatives. There will also be private presentations by companies ongoing concurrently in a separate room.
Attendees are encouraged submit a resume before attending and have the option of also submitting directly to companies and organizations they are interested in. Companies and representatives will be able to see all resumes and may contact you if they are interested. Check your emails from Eventbrite or email firstname.lastname@example.org to find out how to submit your resume.
